Winterizing is a very important part of owning an RV. It’s one of the best ways to keep your vehicle running for many years, with minimal cost. However, with protection against cold weather comes having to flip for warm weather. Don’t worry though, we’ve got you covered with the basics of De-winterization for your RV.

Step One: Power Sources

The first step in the De-winterization process should always be checking your power sources. Depending on where you travel during the winter, you can experience some pretty harsh conditions which means your vehicle may be running harder than usual. This is why it’s always important to check the battery for damage, as well as the propane system. When doing this, don’t forget to turn the propane system off. Next, you should open the pipe less than an inch and check for smells that may indicate leaks.

Don’t forget to test any appliances that rely on power to be sure they are still running properly!

Step Two: Clean Water

The next step in De-winterizing your RV should always be a complete flush of your water system. You most likely included antifreeze during your winterization process and now it’s time to get rid of it. Attach a hose to an outdoor water spicket and connect the other end to the water hookup of your RV. Open all the faucets and turn on the hose allowing clean water to run through the system and flush out any chemicals. Continue to do this until the water runs clear, most likely after 10 to 15 minutes

Step Three: Fresh Air

Changing your filters is always important comma but especially as the seasons begin to change. Spring can mean a lot of pollen and other dusts in the air that can irritate your Airways if you’re not careful. swap your filters out for fresh ones and clean all of your windows to get rid of any lingering grime

Other Tips

Depending on the amount of movement you did this winter, as well as the age and overall condition of your RV, you may also want to check your tires for any wear and tear. Now would be a good time to see if they need to be replaced before beginning any warm weather vacations. Don’t forget to check all of your hoses and pipes, both propane and water for leaks, and make sure that your water pump is working properly. Once you’ve done all of these things your RV’s should be properly de-winterized, and you should be ready for great travels!
